Food Science and Nutrition Department
On Saturday April 26, 2014, a group of El Dorado Park parents and teens attended a tour of Fresno State’s Department of Food Science and Nutrition. This trip was sponsored by the El Dorado Park Community Development Corporation (edpcdc.org) and was led by Community Leaders Kim Hall, Rochelle Davis and Patrick Leung. Also in attendance was CDC Board Member Andy Hansz. The purpose of this field trip was to expose interested area residents to just one of the many educational opportunities available at the nearby Fresno State campus and pique the curiosity of those youth in attendance. The tour included a brief orientation given by Dr. Klaus Tenbergen (Culinology® Program Director) followed by some practical “hands on” cooking experience whereby youth and their parents were paired with students actively enrolled in this major field of study. Several cooking stations were toured and demonstrated including a crepe station, a pasta station and an area for dessert and smoothie preparation. Those attending then enjoyed a delicious lunch which they helped to prepare. The CDC looks forward to sponsoring future field trips for area residents to fully expose them to all that their university neighbor has to offer.
